Shares muted ahead of US jobs data

Shares are treading water this morning ahead of the key US nonfarm payrolls report for July which is due for release at 1.30pm UK time. Forecasts are for around 850,000 to have ben added, which would be the highest number since last August.

More major European companies are reporting earnings today including Allianz, ING and Maersk. The London Stock Exchange Group is sharply higher this morning after reporting strong income growth in the second quarter.

Asian shares were mostly lower as new outbreaks of Covid-19 continue to weigh on sentiment.

Wall Street ended higher on Thursday on strong corporate earnings and positive economic data.
