Stock-markets open the week higher

UK and European stock-markets have opened higher today. The US election and coronavirus remain in focus.

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, including China, Japan and South Korea and excluding the US, signed the world’s largest trade agreement that includes almost a third of the global population. Technology stocks rallied strongly.

President Trump admitted in a social media post that Joe Biden had won the presidential election. Shortly afterwards however he confusingly tweeted he would not concede. Markets will be concerned that the transition effort is being hampered by the Trump administration and their lack of formal acknowledgement of the Biden victory.

David Frost, UK’s Chief Brexit negotiator is going back to Brussels for further talks. He stated the UK “will not be changing” its position. Key issues remain unresolved including fishing rights.
