Stocks are lower this morning as global delta variant cases climb

UK and European stock-markets are down this morning as concerns over growing coronavirus numbers come once again to the fore. In the US it is warned that the new infection rate could climb to 200,000 a day.

Investors are also concerned about the geopolitical ramification of the Taliban’s seizure of Kabul.

In the UK, data shows the unemployment rate fell to 4.7% during the second quarter, just below expectations of 4.8%, and the number of employees in UK jobs was up by 182,000 in July.
