Stocks flat as UK eases restrictions

UK and European stocks have opened flat at the start of the week. The UK begins a new phase of lockdown easing today but the spread on the Indian variant is causing concern with Boris Johnson warning it could threaten further easing next month. Globally, investors will be weighing the surge of coronavirus cases in Singapore and Taiwan.

Markets are also focused on rising global inflation. On Wednesday, the US Fed will be releasing minutes from its most recent meeting which may give insights into the central bank’s thinking on the matter.
