European stocks have received a boost this morning from ECB President Christine Lagarde. Regarding winding down the current stimulus package she said it was "far too early to debate these issues".

Stocks up ahead of Fed meeting

UK and European stocks are higher this morning with investors focused on the two-day Fed policy meeting which starts today. Although the US central bank is not expected to announce any important changes, markets could be moved by comments regarding the Fed’s attitude to ongoing inflationary pressures. US Treasury yields have moved slightly higher today but are still close to three month lows.

Data released shows UK unemployment fell to 4.7% in three months to April. In the US, retail sales data and producer prices will be released later today.
